I am truly delighted to have had the opportunity to visit Beijing Foreign Studies University where I met with the Chairman of the University Council, Prof. Han Zhen, Director of the Irish Studies Centre, Prof. Wang Zhanpeng, and the staff and students involved in the teaching and learning of Irish Studies here in Beijing.

It is a particular pleasure to be present during the launch of the Irish Studies Website which I believe will be an enormous resource for academics and students across China.

Since its foundation in 2007 the Irish Studies Centre at Beiwai has grown from strength to strength and now has the resources and ambition to comprehensively explore and explain Irish culture, our history, our politics and our economy.

I wish you great enjoyment in using the valuable academic and information sources that are available on this website and I am delighted that the Irish Government through its Embassy in Beijing had the opportunity to support you in its development.
